Organogenesis Launches Regenerative Medicine College Scholarship

Canton High School Senior Is First Recipient

Canton, Massachusetts—January 27, 2009—Organogenesis, Inc., a leading regenerative medicine company, has established an annual scholarship program with Canton High School to honor a graduating senior pursuing a career in life sciences research or biomedical engineering. The 2009 recipient is Justin Gaines, who will be attending Brandeis University this fall. As part of the newly launched Canton High School Externship Program, Justin worked this past year with Organogenesis' Applied Cell Research Group, assisting in the group’s regenerative medicine research program.

“As a multidisciplinary field, regenerative medicine requires a diverse team of scientific and medical professionals to advance the science of growing living cells, tissues and organs in the laboratory, and then translate it into technologies that improve the lives of patients,” said Gary Gillheeney, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Organogenesis. “We are proud to support Justin in his career goals and we hope his example will inspire other talented young men and women to consider a career in life sciences research or engineering.”

The Organogenesis Scholarship of $2,500.00 is awarded on the basis of academic achievement and content of an essay, "How do you see yourself contributing to the future of the Life Sciences?" Justin's essay detailed his career goal in "the diagnostic imaging and diagnosis of diseases, along with appropriate courses of treatment."

Justin is graduating in the top 15 percent of his class, with a GPA above 3.5. As an extern at Organogenesis under the auspices of Dr. Dolores Baksh, Associate Director of Applied Research, Justin was involved in the evaluation of the potency of cells used in regenerative medicine therapies; assisted in the design and execution of experiments aimed at improving therapies for wound healing; and gained exposure to the cultivation of a number of different cell types.
